Professor, Department of Cancer Biology
Wake Forest University School of Medicine
Joshua J. Breunig, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Cancer Biology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Previously, he served as the Ben Winters Chair in Regenerative Medicine and Professor at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, with a joint appointment at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He earned his PhD from Yale University in 2007, where he also completed his postdoctoral training. After joining Cedars-Sinai as a project scientist in 2010, he established his independent laboratory in 2014. The Breunig Lab investigates neural development and brain tumor formation using innovative genetic engineering technologies, preclinical cancer models, organoids, and single-cell and spatial genomics to advance therapeutic discovery. His research has been supported by the NCI, NINDS, Department of Defense, American Cancer Society, CureSearch, and Hyundai Hope on Wheels. In 2020, he was recognized as an AACR NextGen Star.
